일일영어회화 / 네이티브 스피커처럼 보이는 5가지 표현

우리나라말도 외국인 사용하면 뭔가 어색할 때가 있습니다. 하지만 속담을 쓰거나 한국사람들이 자주 쓰는 표현을 말하면 와 한국말 잘 하시네요 라고 하기도 합니다. 이처럼 몇가지 표현들을 알아두면 영어대화를 할 때 네이티브 스피커처럼 보이는 것들이 있습니다. 이런 숙어들 가운데 5가지를 드류쌤의 강의를 통해서 알아볼께요. 참고로 일일영어회화 카테고리에서는 필자가 직접 미국 생활을 하면서 실제로 필요하다고 느끼는 영어회화 표현들을 공부하고자 자료를 정리하여 매일 올리고 있습니다.

1. In the absence of 

without => in the absence of

without 보다 좀 더 유식해보인다.

Without a great plan, we won't be able to build the company.

= In the absence of a great plan, we won't be able to build the company.

2. correct me if I'm wrong

원어민도 문장의 시작부분에 자주 쓰는 표현으로 어떤 정보를 더 얻으려고 하거나 자신의 의견을 얘기할 때 자주 사용한다.

굉장히 젠틀한 표현으로 약간 돌려 얘기하는 형태이다.

It is rain. You should take a umbrella.

=> Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need an umbrella if you're going out in the rain?

3. just to clarify

분명히 말하자면,

Just to clarify, did you really want to wear shoes on your head?

4. the way in which

how => the way in which

I like how they designed this building.

=> I like the way in which they designed his building.

5. to take something into account

to consider => to take something into account

Considering we don't have much training, it's probably not a good idea to climb the mountain today.

=> Taking into account that we don't have much training, it's probably not a good idea to climb the mountain today.
